A special weather statement ended in Toronto after Environment Canada called for heavy rainfall through the evening.

Canada’s weather agency said slow-moving showers and thunderstorms with local rainfall amounts of 30 to 50 mm were expected.

“Heavy downpours can cause water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying and urban areas is possible,” Environment Canada said at the time of the special weather statement.

The Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) advised that rivers within the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) could experience higher flows and water levels.

A rainfall warning issued for Halton-Peel has also ended. The City of Hamilton had been under a similar weather warning, with the same alert ending for York-Durham, rounding out the GTHA.

Localized flooding was reported in Brampton and close to Barrie, with over 120 mm of rain in those surrounding areas. Between Saturday and Sunday, as much as 250 mm of rain was recorded.

The rain should taper off in Toronto sometime around midnight.

A mix of sun and clouds is expected by Tuesday morning, with sunny skies arriving around noon and sticking around through Wednesday.

The next weather system could bring significant humidity followed by thunderstorms to Toronto on Thursday.
